¡Cultura Poetry Night! celebrates the culture of people who identify as Chicana/o, Raza, Latinx, and people with Indigenous heritage rooted in areas that are now Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. A multilingual event with two featured poets, guest poets, and open mic! Everyone is welcome at this inclusive event presented by Poetry Center San José, hosted by Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo, in partnership with La Raíz Magazine.

Laura Díaz Tovar (ella/she) is a poet, visual artist, and creative community educator worker born
in Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. Her poetry and art celebrate culture, community, family, and
love. She is co-founder of Colibrí Collective, a grassroots collective of women of color. She has
organized around the issues of gender-based violence, immigration, public health, worker’s

Donato Martínez is from a small pueblo, Garcia de la Cadena, Zacatecas, Mexico. He teaches English Composition, Literature, and Creative Writing at Santa Ana College. He has been a co-coordinator of the Puente Program for 25 years. He hosts and curates many artistic events that feature poetry and music at his campus or in the community. He is also a poet and writes about his barrio experience, his community, his Chicano culture, and his bilingual identities.
