I’m Héctor F. Castañeda (Dog Days Are Over); published writer, HRDRV (“hard drive”) award-nominated songwriter, intuitive creative clarity coach, producer, audio engineer, graphic artist, musician, host of the Strange Alchemy podcast, and more. Poetry is my spellwork for my creativity to bloom. I'm based in Ohlone territory (East Side San José) with a loving family of immigrants. My multifaceted performance features an intuitive decolonial blend of poetry, song, and music to invoke divine alchemic messaging. Rooted in my Temoaya Hñahñu (“ñah-ÑOO”) and Otomí (“oh-toe-ME”) lineage, I center the neurodivergent queering of language and form for Brown people of global majority (people of color). I’m a shapeshifting chameleon night owl bellowing into the oceanic void, constantly phoenixing the architecture of my body. My writing and musical themes often touch on intuition, ancestral energy, linguistics, surrealism, religion, color, organized chaos, metaphysicality, (in)harmony, philosophy, queerness, biology, marginalized bodies, the rewritten and unwritten. I’ve competed in the 2021 Stonewall International Poetry Slam, and featured in various shows including Word Is Write (‘21), The Berkeley Slam (‘19-22), Speaking Axolotl (Nomadic Press ‘21), Tongues of Fire (Canada ‘21), Loud Mouth Jam (‘20-22}, and the 2019 UCSC Queer Fashion Show. I’ve been published in the Mercury News (2016), La Raíz Magazine (‘22-‘23), various zines (“The Radical Zine Vol. 2” with The Resource Center for Nonviolence in ‘19, Lissen… Vol. 1 Queer Slam zine in ‘20, Loud Mouth Poetry Jam’s Dia de Las Poéticas in ‘20), Silicon Valley Youth Climate Team (‘19), Californians for Justice (‘16-17), Rigorous Magazine (‘20), UCSC Food & Garden Guide (‘20 & ‘21) and PandemicPoems.org (‘20). I’ve been interviewed by: acclaimed rapper Noa James for his “5 on Love” IG Live Series (‘23), York Campbell for Welcome to Earth Stories (‘22; FKA Poetic Earthlings), Michael Jasso for Loud Mouth Poetry Jam, Imogen Arate for the award-winning Poets & Muses podcast, ADVISS Music (‘22), Sabrina B. for Experimental Audio Scene (‘22) and the Tizzy & Wayne Coffee Show. (‘20-22).
