Cæsura 2023: Objects in the Mirror

$20.00 USD

As the editorial team developed the theme objects in the mirror, Audrey Flack’s photorealistic painting called Wheel of Fortune kept popping into my mind.

A skull sits in the reflection of the mirror, above the mirror is a framed photo of Flack as a child. Near the mirror is the sand hourglass and a burning candle. All the iconography of Flack’s life surrounds that little mirror; A portal we look into to demand truth or beg for illusion.

The mirror stands alone unobtrusive, catching glimpses of elusive scenarios, playing out the tales of our lives. Then, the mirror sits obtrusive, becoming a vessel in which we are hypersensitive to the hyperreal, too often objectifying our own self.

This compilation you are about to embark upon captures those glimpses of life in action, with those hyperreal moments spliced in; The uncanny disgruntled office letter to the beauty of aging, to justice provoked in a tutu, to what marks our tombstone. I’m honored to present to you a complete volume of creative work holding depth in its myriad of reflections.
